Are the Hoses Fitted to Your New Boat up to the Task?

If you are new to the world of boating but want to grasp the opportunity with both hands, you'll want to ensure that your vessel is as well equipped as possible for the journey ahead. While you make sure that it is comfortable and efficient, you must also avoid any downtime linked to a poor choice of equipment. In this case, why do you need to pay particular attention to the individual hoses that make your boat work?
Close Attention
When newcomers try to make a vessel perform better, they often pay close attention to the motor, exhaust or tuning capacity. Yet they should also review all of their hoses and see if they need to be upgraded for better efficiency.
Bilge Pump
To begin with, they should look at the bilge pump hose. Many vessels are fitted with a corrugated option as standard as it is relatively cheap and easy to install in tight quarters. Certainly, this hose needs to be flexible and strong so that it can resist any damage from chemicals and remain in place under all conditions. However, a standard corrugated hose may not be the best approach due to the nature of the internal bore. This type of hose has a corrugated surface on the inside as well as the outside, which can restrict water flow under maximum load conditions. If there is too much resistance, the bilge pump may fail to work altogether, so it's better to fit an upgraded version with a smooth internal bore. Certainly, these are more expensive but a better solution long-term.
Exhaust
If you do intend to upgrade the motor so that you can be more adventurous on the open water, take a close look at the exhaust hose. These will be purpose made to withstand high temperatures and are often reinforced with stainless steel wire. It may be better for you to look at silicon-based hoses instead, as these will generally withstand much higher temperatures.
Other Piping
While you are looking at your marine hoses, don't forget to check the potable water pipes. You will need PEX tubing according to the correct grade, but make sure that the interior bore is smooth as there is less restriction. A corrugated interior surface could lead to algae buildup if you're not careful.
